Day 16, western Latvia

After a relaxed night in a wooden ‘toolshed’, we woke to a very misty morning right next to the river – chilly, but cool atmosphere!

We rode back to the main road and went to visit Skrunda 1, an abandoned (so we thought) Soviet town built entirely as a listining post. It is closed to the public now (since April this year) and run by the Latvian Army these days. We only caught a glimpse ..

We travelled calm forrets roads and the usual corrugated, fast sand roads today – the latter being a oain in the neck with the sidecar.

We reached the Soviet Radar/Listening post near Irbene (it’s on the track), – amazing! It has been rebuild and is used by the nearby University. Again there was a Soviet town to run the place, all abandoned – spooky, especially the wall paintings ..

We finally reached the baltic see – great beaches, lot’s of space!

The town of Vendpils is worth a visit – surreal harbour and wooden houses in the adjoining centre of town.

When we reaches the northern part of the Latvian TET, we found an old german bunker and more soviet fortifications.

Riding got more difficult in the deep sand 😬

We finally found an amazing place right by tve sea – sleep in a minute wooden drum – with a big window overlooking the sea. No electricity, water etc.

Eventually we got a fire going – yes, meat and beer, what else is new 😁
